The program “Bachelor of Education in Teacher Education Gymnasium: Italian`` at University of Mannheim provides students with the first step to a career in teaching, but graduates also should complete the Master of Education, in order to teach at schools. Optionally, graduate can specialize in the cultural or linguistic sector. The course of study is compound of two main subject areas – Italian and Education Sciences and Teaching Methodology. In the Italian modules students gain knowledge about Italy`s culture, literature and linguistics. Literary Studies classes are used to analyse Italian literature and media, with the help of literary theories. In the course of study participants also become proficient in their level of language. Via interdisciplinary classes, students are helped to cope up with the challenges that come when teaching multicultural groups. The fundamental scientific concepts behind teaching and learning are covered in Education Sciences classes, which are supplemented by practical experiences during the first tutoring sessions.
