The “Doctorate” program at Freiburg University of Music is orientated in the subjects of musicology and music education. Those who choose to become doctoral students dedicate themselves to writing an in-depth scientific thesis, which they must eventually defend to receive the title of Doctor of Philosophy. But before that, students must propose their topic for a committee vote, and upon approval, begin writing. Applicants could only be accepted if they have a completed master’s degree in the same university. After this defence and the resulting title, doctoral students will have many career prospects, but they could also continue their scientific career.
