Description
Animal Science’s main focus is breeding, growth and management of animals and livestock. Experts in this field work to better the living conditions, longevity, health and breeding of animals and produce and process dairy products and meat. Animal Science programs cover a variety of subjects such as veterinary medicine, animal nutrition, breeding, genetics, animal behavior and welfare. Students gain extensive knowledge on all aspects of animals and their purposes in the world. Excellent communication skills, understanding of business, patience, willingness to learn and adapt, and analytical and critical thinking are required in order to study and work in Animal Science. Students are encouraged to spend time researching and gain practical experience by working in a lab or with a veterinary doctor. A degree in Animal Science is appealing to employers, as the field is developing fast. Graduates have many career prospects, such as farm manager, livestock manager, veterinarian, animal behavior specialist, meatpacker, researcher, livestock breeder, or a job in a pharmaceutical company, biotechnology, conservation, animal production and more.
