English Studies is an academic discipline that focuses on the historical development of the English language to its present-day form, as well as the history, literature, culture, society and politics of the English-speaking world. This includes the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, as well as the former territories of the British Empire. Students gain understanding of a variety of subjects like Linguistics, History of the United Kingdom, History of the United States, English Morphology, E-learning for Foreign Language Learning, and acquire skills in intercultural communication, translation, analysis and interpretation of literary texts. A degree course in English Studies enables students to develop their problem-solving, decision-making, critical-thinking and analytical skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills. They learn how to translate various texts and comprehend manifold aspects of the English language and English-speaking countries and cultures. English Studies graduates can go on to pursue a number of careers in the sectors of mass communication, media, tourism, cultural heritage, history, linguistics, academia, research, politics and journalism.
