Description
Tourism is a global industry which is booming more than ever, due to the advances in technology and transport, cheap flights and accommodation, and globalization. Tourism is the act of traveling and staying outside of one’s usual residence and exploring new places and cultures. Tourism students typically study subjects like Sociology, Micro- and Macroeconomics, Geography, Environmental Science, Organizational and Consumer Behavior, Ethics, Management, Tourism Policy, Tourism Organizations, and through extensive research they can learn about new trends in tourism and alternative approaches. Sustainability is a key component of Tourism Studies, as pollution and climate change are major risks to the environment and mass tourism is affecting it negatively. Tourism students have the opportunity to combine their hobbies and studies, and develop professional skills in practical work, projects and field days through traveling and exploring. Career prospects for Tourism Studies graduates are various. They can work as marketing executives, event managers, tourism officers, travel agents, holiday representatives, hotel managers, international developers, environmental scientists, holiday park managers, retail developers, tour operators, tour guides, and many more.
