The six-semester study program “Bachelor of Science in Computer Science” offered by Westphalian University located in Gelsenkirchen provides students with knowledge and skills about the software - its importance, creation, as well as implementation. Following a common foundation in computer science, students have the opportunity to choose between one of the two areas of study provided by the computer science`s program-technical or practical computer science. Throughout the basic training which lasts three semesters students will gain knowledge in theoretical computer science, databases systems, software engineering, technical English, etc. After this period, students will be already capable of developing application systems for a wide range of application fields. Besides the chosen specialisation subject that students select, they need to attend three mandatory modules that are specifically tailored for the chosen specialisation area. Incorporated to the curriculum there is a year- lasting software project, completed in teams, as well as a practical phase in the semester that lasts three months. The program is completed with a Bachelor`s thesis, which can potentially be done in collaboration with a firm.
