Description
The six-semester study program “Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology” offered by Westphalian University located in Recklinghausen provides students with the needed knowledge and skills in order to become specialists in the field of molecular biology. Throughout the first four semester students will gain foundation knowledge of molecular biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, as well as computer science. In the fifth semester participants have the opportunity to select one of the three key fields of studies, namely bioinformatics, bionanotechnology and bioengineering or medical biology and biochemistry. The “Bioinformatics” emphasis aims to education professionals who operate at the intersection of informatics and biosciences. For those who want to learn more about how nanotechnology and how can be utilized in the life science, the right choice of specialization subjects is “Bionanotechnology and bioengineering”. “Medical biology and biochemistry” teaches students more about the development of modern therapeutic options and diagnostic procedures. Incorporated to the curriculum, there is a practical phase in the sixth semester. Graduates of the program can work in the pharmaceutical-chemical industry, biotechnology companies, etc.
