Digital technology has influenced society in a very positive way. It has made work and everyday life easier, and communication and the distribution of information more efficient. Community Informatics deal with information and communication technology used to help and support members of communities and their social, cultural, and economic development. Community Informatics combine topics from Social Sciences and Computer Science, and generally teach subjects like Sociological Theory, Economics, Social Stratification and Social Inequality, Mathematics and Data Analysis, Social Informatics, Applied Computer Science, Strategic and Operational IT Management in Social Organizations, System Architectures and Networks and more. Community Informatics programs provide students with plenty of opportunities for practical projects and group work, so they can learn to work in teams, gain valuable experience and develop transferable professional skills like critical-thinking, strategic planning skills, the ability to methodically analyze and solve problems, to plan and perform operations, and to develop and implement projects.
