Description

African Studies is an academic field that focuses on the continent of Africa and its culture and history. Africa is the second-largest and second most-populous continent which means that it unites a variety of cultures and languages. Students in African Studies have the opportunity to explore the history of African societies, politics, languages and religions, and track their development to current times. African Studies programs are multidisciplinary, but most often teach subjects like Sociology, Social Anthropology, History, Governance and Politics, Religion, Geography and Regions of Africa, Ethnography and more. Students also concern themselves with topics like Slavery and Freedom in Twentieth Century Africa, Media and Popular Culture in Africa, Globalization, and Development and Underdevelopment in African countries.
