Description

By definition, Biochemistry is the application of chemistry to the biological processes at a cellular and molecular level. It focuses on the vital processes in living organisms and their chemical substances. Biochemists analyze and solve biological problems. Biochemistry degree programs usually teach subjects like Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Physical Chemistry, Metabolism and Genetics, Molecular Basis of Human Diseases, Principles of Neurobiology, Bioorganic Chemistry, Protein Engineering and others. Students learn about current topics in chemical biology and biochemistry, recent advances in biochemistry, and biochemical techniques. Biochemistry graduates are expected to have mastered different concepts and have precise understanding of cellular mechanisms, as well as the ability to conduct research and develop problem-solving strategies based on it, for issues like environmental pollution, malnutrition and diseases. The advances in technology aid to the evolution of the Biochemistry field and students must be able to adapt to them. Biochemistry graduates have a wide variety of career prospects – biomedical scientist, clinical biochemist, analytical chemist, toxicologist, scientific laboratory technician, forensic scientist, nanotechnologist, science writer, scientific researcher and many more.
