Description

Precision Engineering is a subfield of electrical, software, electronics, mechanical and optical engineering. Its main function is to efficiently design and manufacture complex machines and structures that prove to be stable and durable in time. It is called Precision Engineering because it is concerned with the design of parts of instruments and products whose size and shape must be exactly precise and able to be repeated and reproduced. Precision Engineering degree courses teach a number of subjects which typically include Technical Mechanics, Electrical Engineering and Electronics, Microsystem and Microcomputer Technology, Signal Processing, Materials Technology, Microstructure and Surface Analysis, Microtechnologies, Precision Manufacturing and Measurement, Mechanics and Mathematics and others. A degree in Precision Engineering provides students with extensive knowledge which can be applied in real work situations, as well as professional skills in the field, such as the ability to design and develop machinery, generate prototypes, implement modifications and solve system problems. Graduates in Precision Engineering can take on a number of career paths, for example in the fields of design and manufacturing, software engineering, quality control, electronics, mechanical engineering and other sectors.
