Description

70% of the Earth’s surface is covered in water, so Hydrology is a very important field of study. It explores the movement, changes and quality of the water resources. Through analysis and different scientific methods, hydrologists work towards solving any water related problems which are also very current – water pollution and safety, preservation, as well as natural disasters. Because water is vital to life on Earth, Hydrology has developed as a science in order to gain clarity of complex water systems and their effect on human life. Subjects covered in Hydrology programs include Mathematics, Physical Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Meteorology, Watershed Processes, Geochemistry and more. As well as theoretical knowledge, students also have the opportunity to gain practical skills through laboratory and field work. Hydrology studies center on many aspects of water – running water, groundwater, contamination and restoration, as well as the use of computers and technology to keep it safe. Graduates can work in water quality science, research, hazard mitigation, ichthyology, water resources management, hydraulics, hydrology engineering, environmental engineering, project management, biology and many others.
