Description

By definition, Geography is the scientific study of the Earth’s landscapes, environments, inhabitants and natural processes. Geography can generally be divided into two categories: physical and cultural. Physical Geography studies nature, while cultural is more focused on peoples. Geography is important, because it provides understanding of physical systems that are observed every day, like water cycles and wind currents, and generally serves as a link between natural and social sciences. Geography university programs typically teach subjects like Environmental Geography, Human Geography, Introductory Earth Science, Meteorology and Climatology, Soil Science, Hydrology, Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, Geomorphology, Cartography and Mapping and more. In recent years, it has become even more important to shed light on environmental issues, such as climate change and natural disasters, which is why students also have the opportunity to discuss topics like sustainable energy resources, waste management, urbanization and cultural development. A degree course in Geography provides students with valuable professional skills, like resource interpretation, data analysis, communication, problem-solving and critical assessment skills. Geography graduates can pursue careers in a number of sectors, including environmental management, urban planning, water quality analysis, conservation, recycling management, pollution analysis and others.
