Description

By definition, Geology is an earth science that primarily deals with the solid Earth, the formation of rocks, its properties and the changes they undergo over time. Geology also studies Earth processes such as landslides, earthquakes, floods, and volcanic eruptions and aims to predict natural disasters and thereby prevent people from being harmed. Geology is important because, among other things, it determines certain patterns in nature such as ocean currents and climate variations, and predicts potential future natural scenarios by analyzing climate change and natural processes over time. Geology university programs teach various subjects, the most common of which include Environmental Processes and Global Change, Sedimentology, Minerals and Magmas, Earth Resources, Evolution of the Earth, Rocks, Minerals and Gemstones, Geomorphology, Crustal Evolution, Engineering Geology and more. Students in Geology learn how to analyze water basin, evaluate terrains, reconstruct past environments, gather and interpret data and use various geological methods. Through fieldwork and practical projects, Geology students can develop environmental awareness, as well as critical assessment, strategic planning, problem-solving and strong communication skills, which are valued highly in the industry. Potential career prospects for Geology graduates include jobs in engineering geology, environmental consultancy, pollution control, hard rock mining, coal, oil and gas exploration and others.
