Description

The Romance language group is used widely around the world and includes Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and Romanian. The common trait they share is that they have evolved from Latin. The name of the group comes from the Roman Empire. Romance Studies is an academic field that deals with the specifics of the Romance languages and the history, geography, politics, literature and cultures of the countries where they are spoken. Romance Studies programs teach a variety of subjects that typically include one of the chosen languages, Linguistics, Literature, History, Geography, Media Studies, and others. Moreover, students also have the opportunity to explore current topics related to their studies and carry out extensive research in the field of their chosen language in order to gain professional skills like problem solving, critical thinking, excellent oral and written communication, proficiency in at least one of the Romance languages, the ability to gather data and analyze information, and form and present arguments. A degree course in Romance Studies provides graduates with a number of career prospects – educator, translator, writer, linguist, publisher, editor, journalist, marketing manager, public relations officer and more.
