Criminal Law relates to crime and criminal offences, such as murder, theft, assault and drunken driving. The main aim of Criminal Law is to establish legal standards and consequences for those who do not adhere to them. The solution to the injuries caused by crime is punishment – the most common of which fines and incarceration. Criminal Law is important because it protects society from criminals who violate the law by inflicting physical harm or stealing, for instance.
