Description

The European continent prides itself with its unity of peoples and their variety of languages and cultures. Slavic languages, which are spoken in 13 European countries, form one of the oldest language groups. Slavic Studies are a multidisciplinary academic field focused on the Slavic countries and their languages, literature, culture, geography and politics both in the past and present. Slavic Studies programs usually teach a number of subjects, including at least one Slavic language – most commonly Russian, Linguistics, Geopolitics, Semiotics of Culture, Economics, Philosophy, Theology, Political Science, Sociology and others. Students in Slavic Studies are also highly encouraged to carry out research on contemporary topics like Gender Studies in Eastern Europe, East European Film in the 21st Century, Russian Modernism and Globalization so they can gain knowledge about them and develop valuable professional skills – the ability to gather data and analyze information, form arguments and present them, and think critically. Career prospects for Slavic Studies graduates include jobs in academia and research, in security agencies, business, journalism, media, communication and more.
