Description
Epidemiology is a branch of Public Health that deals with disease outbreaks and mass illnesses. Epidemiology studies multidrug-resistant pathogens and how they can be managed. The main aim of Epidemiology is to manage and control the distribution and spread of diseases and other factors relating to health. Epidemiology is very important because it analyses the patterns of disease conditions in defined populations, and provides methods of identifying risk factors and preventing immense damages to society. The most common subjects taught in Epidemiology degree programs include Biostatistics, Environmental Health, Biometrics, Health Promotion, Cancer Epidemiology, Supply Systems, Genetic Epidemiology, Determinants of Chronic Diseases, Public Health Surveillance and Monitoring, among others. A degree course in Epidemiology provides students with understanding of the connection between the environment and the spread of pathogens, the social factors influencing epidemiological processes, and the possible causes of diseases or illnesses. Epidemiology graduates possess in-depth knowledge and an array of professional skills that they can apply in a number of jobs, such as scientific researcher, insurance consultant, pharmaceutical distributor, public health promoter and many more.
