The dual program “Bachelor of Engineering in Laser and Optical Technologies Dual” at the University of Applied Sciences Jena has a length of ten semesters. In order to enrol for this specialisation, students must first have signed a contract with a partner company. During the first two years of training, students learn the basics of theory and practice of becoming an optician, culminating in a final IHK exam. The curriculum, afterwards, includes the subjects Technical optics, Business administration, manufacturing engineering, Modern laser applications with laser protection, Basics of laser material processing and more. Graduates have the opportunity to enter any field of the many of photonics.
