The German Film and Television Academy Berlin, founded in 1966, is a public film school seated in Berlin. The education of the 34 students that are admitted every year is focused on the core areas of filmmaking (i.e., Scriptwriting, Directing, Cinematography, Producing). Every year, the German Film and Television Academy Berlin assigns a maximum of eight study places for the four-year study courses “Directing“, “Cinematography“, and “Producing“, as well as up to ten study places for the three-year study course “Scriptwriting“, which is carried out at the associated Academy for Scriptwriting. Students enrolled in the study courses “Directing“, “Cinematography“, and “Producing“ go through a two-year period of basic studies together before they specialize and choose specific seminars and workshops for their main studies. Scriptwriting students only spend the first half of the year together with the students of other subjects. The range of studies offered does not include Bachelor or Master degree courses. The prerequisite for admission to study at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin is the completion of a mutli-stage selection procedure.
